Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self-portrait as the Allegory of Painting (La Pittura), c.1638-9. | Madrid’s Prado gallery has finally, after 200 years, put on a show devoted to a female painter, Clara Peeters. We need far more exhibitions like this, that let us understand the greatness of women working under heavy patriarchies:

Artemisia Gentileschi. Artista formada en el taller de su padre que era seguidor de Caravaggio. El trabajo de Artemisa se diferencia del de otras mujeres por sus obras a gran escala basadas frecuentemente en temas bíblicos o mitológicos protagonizados por «heroínas» o «mujeres fuertes» y también por el tratamiento poco convencional que recibe en sus lienzos la iconografía del heroísmo femenino. Ejemplo: «Susana y los Viejos».:
